Chiltern Relocation

Move to Bucks or Texas? And the winner is…. Bucks!

The Initial Enquiry

Last November we welcomed a couple from Canada who were here on a flying visit to make a huge lifestyle decision. The couple needed to decide whether to live, work and raise their family in leafy Bucks or in the Texan Deep South. Our client had the opportunity to work for universities in London or Austin Texas and was doing his research accordingly. During their visit they would be weighing up the pros and cons and with such dramatic differences in lifestyles between the two locations, it was up to Chiltern Relocation to show Bucks at its best.

How we helped

Our client had chosen this area rather than central London due to a number of factors: the ease of commuting into Marylebone, getting more house for your money, a decent sized garden, excellent local schooling and the access to green space. Our Orientation Day took in Chalfont St Giles, Chalfont St Peter, Amersham, Beaconsfield and Seer Green. We visited a number of rental options and explained all the schooling options and even had the time to visit the weekend market in Amersham Old Town.

The Problems we faced

The couple viewed the area on a cold and extremely wet November day. It was too wet to even get out of the car to stroll around the market in Old Amersham – or any other location – to get a feel for the area. We were very aware that it was Bucks vs sunny Texas so we had to ensure that we were able to fully highlight all the positives of living in the Chilterns from the inside of a warm car!

We were delighted to hear that our client chose the position at the London university. Six months later we welcomed them back to set about finding the perfect rental property within catchment of an outstanding primary school yet also within commuting distance to London. We viewed a number of options but the hands down winner was a beautiful house in Chesham with an open plan feel and great garden in a fabulous location. The children secured places at the outstanding primary school Thomas Harding Junior School and the family is now starting their new life in leafy Bucks.

We first met Sharon when my potential employer in London commissioned Chiltern Relocation to show my wife and I around the Chilterns, in order to help us make a decision about whether to accept the job and move to the UK or not. Coming from Canada, we were concerned about the sizes and prices of housing options for a family of four in and around London.

Chiltern Relocation showed us a range of houses and gave us a tour of the area, addressing some of those concerns and making us comfortable enough to accept the job and make the move overseas.  We were so impressed with Sharon’s knowledge of the area and professional manner that we asked her to work with us again when it was time to find our new home. She helped us organise a housing visit about 6 weeks before the move, including visits to a range of homes based on her understanding of our needs.

Once we made a choice, Chiltern Relocation negotiated with the letting agency, provided information about local schools for my son, and reviewed our lease agreement to ensure the terms were reasonable before we signed. She also made sure to be there for the initial inspection when we took possession of the house, which provided some comfort at what can be an anxious time.

I can only imagine how much more difficult and stressful the whole process would have been without the knowledge and experience that Chiltern Relocation provided. I would (and will) absolutely recommend her to anyone looking to make their home in the area!
