Chiltern Relocation hits the airwaves to discuss the next property hot spots
Relocation was the topic of the day on Radio Berkshire and the BBC’s Anne Diamond Show was keen to find out more. Sharon Hewitt from Chiltern Relocation was interviewed by Sarah Walker who invited her on the show as a local property expert who is witnessing current moving trends.
Sharon was asked where most people are looking to move to and she explained that there has been a surge in interest in riverside locations, notably: Marlow, Windsor, Twyford, Caversham and Maidenhead. She went on to explain that the typical profile of a client relocating to the Berkshire area was a couple aged 30-35 who were looking at schooling as their main driver for the move. As well as providing a picturesque river setting the areas mentioned are all within a reasonable distance from London by train or motorway links and they are all close to the major airports. This way clients relocating can live the country life but also be able to commute back to London with ease.
Rural vs Urban:
Sharon went on to explain that often there is a mismatch between one half of the couple desiring the rural idyll but the other keen to be close to shops which inevitably leads to compromise. Riverside towns such as Marlow are able to satisfy all parties by offering the riverside lifestyle (regattas, rowing clubs, riverside pubs) and by being close to all major amenities such as supermarkets and sports facilities.
Next Hot Spots?
With Crossrail now 80% complete Maidenhead has already witnessed a
spike in property prices as it becomes an increasingly desirable location. Interviewer Sarah Walker went on to ask Sharon where we should now be house hunting in order to benefit from the newly found popularity of the area. Sharon explained that towns and villages surrounding Maidenhead such as Holyport and Bourne End and Taplow are areas to keep on the radar. Offering good schools, a good commute and country living close to the river these areas are already witnessing a surge of interest.
The London Effect:
Sharon went on to talk about the London effect on popular local towns such as Marlow. This iconic town boasts many designer shops on its destination High Street and the town has recently welcomed a rather exciting new arrival. The Ivy – best known as the celebrity restaurant of choice in Soho – has opened a venue on Marlow High Street called the The Ivy Marlow Garden. The new addition has been a huge success with bookings for tables stretching to months in advance.
With more and more people keen to make the move out of London it no surprise that Berks/Bucks is now firmly on the map for those keen to establish themselves either in popular locations such as Maidenhead or Marlow or in the new up and coming areas.
