Oslo to Bucks with school focused search

The Initial Enquiry

A ping from LiveChat on the Chiltern Relocation website alerted us to an enquiry from Mrs P in Oslo who was looking to relocate her family to the UK. She had narrowed down the areas which were of interest but was finding the options on property websites overwhelming let alone the school choices. We explained how our service worked and a visit was soon arranged whereby Chiltern Relocation would spend three days showing her a range of towns, rental options and schools.

How we helped

We sent Mrs P a questionnaire to help her clarify exactly what she was looking for and using this information we spent considerable time researching and previewing the best options. Within the research we also called many schools – both state and private – to ascertain whether there would be a space available for her six year old son. Our tour was as follows:

Day One:

Given the need to be close to Heathrow and major road and rail links, Saracens head pub in Beaconsfield Old Town with blue sky and cars parked outsideBeaconsfield and Gerrards Cross were selected as the ideal locations to start our search. On our first day we viewed five houses in Beaconsfield and then took Mrs P on a tour of the town to point out the tennis courts, squash club, cricket club and playgrounds. In the afternoon we visited Gerrards Cross and viewed three more houses in addition to a
familiarisation tour of the town.

Day Two:

Next up was the school visits. With a preference for co-ed we headed off for a tour of Gayhurst School in Gerrards Cross. Here we enjoyed seeing the children fully absorbed in their activities. This is one of the very few co-ed private schools in the area and the school is set in sweeping grounds. We then viewed a house in Seer Green – a beautiful village just minutes from Beaconsfield. After touring and visiting the three locations Mrs P preferred the feel of Beaconsfield and we viewed a few more properties in the town including a few houses within a gated community.

Day Three:

This morning we spent some time discussing the pros and cons of the different properties we had viewed. We then headed to Davenies SchoolDavenies school sign in Beaconsfield for a tour. Despite initially wanting co-ed Mrs P fell in love with this great school for boys aged 4-13years. The boy’s enthusiasm for learning and the fabulous facilities won her over. The school has recently undergone a huge renovation programme creating the Jubilee Building for the Pre-Prep and Junior School classrooms. The use of space is very inventive and adaptable with the goal of ‘inside/outside’ schooling. The spacious and light classrooms lead onto outdoor classrooms for the younger boys and ‘break out areas’ with brightly coloured seating for the older boys. The sports facilities are excellent with a large sports hall, swimming pool, rugby pitches and AstroTurf pitch. After this tour we had lunch and a chance to discuss all the options. One of the properties we viewed on Monday was chosen and Mrs P put in her offer. She was so delighted with Davenies School that the deposit was paid leaving us to negotiate the lease agreement on the rental property.

 Problems we faced

On returning to Oslo the landlord of the chosen property decided that he now wished to sell rather than rent the house. This was obviously a great disappointment but we needed to move fast to secure another property. Since her return two more properties had become available within budget so Children Relocation viewed these two homes on Mrs P’s behalf. Detailed pictures and video clips were taken and having spent three days viewing homes together we clearly understood exactly what our client was looking for. A new rental option was selected which was over budget but with some negotiation the property was secured.

Conclusion

“We approached Chiltern Relocation with a rather demanding brief- relocation of our family of four from abroad in 3 months!  That brief was fully met with a house, a school and a nursery all being sourced well in advance of the move.  Chiltern Relocation is an incredibly efficient and professional company.  Following the move, they have been invaluable with their vast insider knowledge or all things local helping us settle into our new life quickly and easily.   We couldn’t have wished for a smoother and less stressful move. “
