Five Things to do this Weekend to find your Dream Home
Are you looking to move and are overwhelmed by the thought of finding the right location, right house and right commute? Below are five steps to help you bite the bullet and set off on the exciting adventure.
1. Research all the commuter routes and travel options
Often we have families approaching us keen to live the rural dream but the reality of commuting times and thereby time away from home and the family is important to factor in the considerations.
Would living near the new Crossrail make a difference to your commute? Are you happy to drive to a station every morning and back in the evening or would you prefer to be able to walk? How long is your commute once you have got into London? These are all questions that need addressing before you can consider which areas to choose. Refer to our commuter train times guide for detailed information on optimal travel times:
2. Connect up with local Facebook groups and other key sites
All towns and villages now have a community page which offer a wealth of information about the town and access to many locals who are happy to answer any questions you may have about moving to that area.
Make a list and ask questions about life there – thoughts on nurseries and schools, local amenities and social opportunities. Other sites worth visiting are netmums and Life After London where you can get advice from people who have been in a similar position. Chiltern Relocation offers Free Area Guides online with detailed information about a wide range of towns and villages in Bucks, Berks, Oxfordshire and Herfordshire.
3. Include a broad search criteria
Often we find that clients come to us with a very specific wish list thereby dramatically reducing their options and missing out on potential gems. ‘You don’t know what you don’t know’ as the saying goes so by keeping an open mind to possibilities you will open up more potential options.
4. Make friends with the estate agents
In these days of online searching it is easy to conduct all your research via search engines or wait for emails to hit your inbox. Once you have pinpointed a location we recommend you get to know the local agents they will have you at the forefront of their minds when out valuing potential properties.
5. Stop surfing property search engines and get out there!
It is only by actually getting out and viewing potential houses and areas that you get an idea of what you really like, what you really don’t like and what you are prepared to compromise on. Sorry to dispel the myth but there is no such thing as the ‘ideal home’ – there is always an element of compromise and until you have been out looking you won’t know where that area will be! Time to get off the sofa with the search engine and get out and start viewing.
With over 13 years’ experience in sourcing property and unrivaled local knowledge, Chiltern Relocation can take on the stress of the search and guide you through the all the steps to finding exactly what you are looking for!
