HR Departments call for help relocating new staff member
We were recently contacted by an HR Executive who needed assistance moving an employee from Egypt to Reading with his wife and their 3 year old son.
The Team member
The employee was looking for a two bedroom furnished flat in Reading and the company had allocated him a budget of £800-£1000pcm. The HR executive had researched property search engines and found that there were 134 flats available matching his criteria. Feeling overwhelmed with the choice available and how to choose the best property for him, a call was put in to Chiltern Relocation and this is where we stepped in.
Chiltern Relocation shortlisted the flats available for his required start date as his temporary accommodation was only available for a limited period. This reduced it down to 77 flats. We then looked at properties that would accept children (a little known filter) and this brought it down to 27.
Search Engines are really good at showing available properties but in reality the Reading rental market moves very fast and of the 27 flats only 18 were still available.
Schooling was also a key requirement for the employee. Our next filter was to find apartments within catchment of an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ primary school as the child would need to register for a state school place in January 2018 and the couple would only accept proximity to a highly rated school. Only 14 rentals were in catchment of Ofsted Good or Outstanding Schools.
Understanding the finer points of a town centre rental we then further reduced down the options to eliminate apartment blocks which can suffer from noise issues due to revellers coming out of the city centre. We also discounted apartment blocks which historically take a large percentage of students. We were left with 8 good options from the original 134. We proceeded to set up a schedule for all eight properties with 30 mins time slots below like example below.

Client pick up
On the day of the viewings we collected the client from Reading train station and briefed him on the plan for the day. After viewing five apartments we stopped for a quick bite to eat and a recap of properties seen so far and then completed the viewings.
After visiting all the properties we discussed the best option and visited the letting agent to submit an offer and pay the holding deposit. At this point a copy of their passports are taken to cover Anti Money Laundering legal requirements.
End of search day
We dropped our client back to the train station at 4.30pm with property secured and move in date approved.
Our work does not stop there however, we coordinated all the details with the HR department, ensured that maintenance work to be carried out on the rental was completed and followed up on cleaning.
On move in day Chiltern Relocation were at the property to check through the inventory to make sure any bumps and scrapes were noted. We also took meter readings and arranged the change of utilities.

Finally we sent a ‘Welcome to Reading’ pack which highlighted the local Drs, dentists, grocery, pharmacist’s etc. Also we left the door open for any other questions that may arise no matter how small.
