The Initial Enquiry
Chiltern Relocation was recently approached by a family who had been living in Fulham for many years. The couple had both grown up in rural Yorkshire and they were keen to now move out of London and recreate the rural idyll for their four year old son as he grew up.
The couple had chosen the Chilterns for its proximity to excellent transport links, great schools and access to the open countryside. Their wish list included a character house with a rural feel, a good sized garden, within catchment of an outstanding primary school and no more than a ten minute drive from the train station.
How we helped
With areas ranging from Thame, Princes Risborough, the Chalfonts and the hamlet of Penn Street the search area was wide and needed narrowing down. We arranged three orientation and viewing days for the family to get a feel for the different areas. We covered a lot of miles visiting Butlers Cross, villages on the outskirts of Oxford, Berkhamsted and Jordans and Seer Green amongst others.
The Problems we Faced
Whilst the family enjoyed the rural aspect, the realisation that transport links or shops were not on the doorstep meant that they started to rethink what they did actually want from their move. The viewings also helped them realise that for their budget they would not be able to secure a character house with acres of garden yet close to all amenities.
With this in mind Chiltern Relocation arranged a viewing of a great sized modern house, with a lovely garden within the town of Beaconsfield and only 10 minutes walking distance from the train station and shops. The couple were initially uncertain about viewing a house within a cul de sac of similar properties and located in a town. However once they saw what they could get for their money in terms of house space, garden (it even had a small swimming pool!), catchment for outstanding primary schools and proximity to all amenities, there was no turning back. Given how much the house had going for it, it was no surprise to learn that the sales process would go to sealed bids. Given Chiltern Relocation’s expertise in this area we were delighted to learn that our bid was successful.
We are really pleased that our clients realised that this property ticked all their boxes and they were prepared to compromise on the rural idyll for the upside of a great location. We often find that the search process is a journey that the clients need to go through in order to fully understand what they really do want. Had the family seen this house at the outset it would not have been realistically considered as it did not fulfil much of the original brief. The orientation and viewing days are really important in terms of clarifying the most important factors in the search and in this case to help our clients envisage how their life would be once they had left Fulham behind.
The family have now moved in, their son is very happy at his local school and the family are enjoying Beaconsfield’s ‘café culture’ as well as the country walks which are both on the doorstep.
