Piecing together the puzzle: 3 x school places + home + commute

The Initial Enquiry

Chiltern Relocation took on a real ‘chicken and egg’ international relocation. A family from Singapore with 3 children aged 13, 11 and 8 needed school places starting after Easter, a home within catchment of an excellent primary and secondary school – which had places available within the academic year – and a reasonable commute time to London.

How we helped

It was a juggling act as to which would come first – finding the school places or the house within school catchment as one relies completely on the other. Also the 11 year old would only have one term left at primary school and would need to ideally secure a secondary school place at the same school that the older sibling would attend.

The search was further complicated by the fact that only some schools would deal with their own ‘in year’ admissions in Bucks whereas other schools left it to Bucks County Council to confirm availability of places (and getting a response from the Council was not the timeliest of affairs).

Chiltern Relocation explored a number of locations such as Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, the Chalfonts, Amersham and Thame to name but a few. With the family being based in Singapore and with the time difference we had a lot of ground to cover on their behalf.

Problems we Faced

Obstacles we came up against included: finding school places at the primary schools but not the secondary schools and vice versa, school places being filled overnight or finding a house in catchment of good schools but without the relevant school places.

We then researched schools and homes in Chesham and found that we could tick the following boxes:

  • An Ofsted outstanding primary school with places in Year 3 and Year 6
  • A place available at the excellent Chiltern Hills Academy for Year 8
  • Ability for the 11 year old to apply to Chiltern Hills Academy for secondary place
  • A large house and garden with space for visiting relatives in the summer
  • Commute to London on the tube or from Amersham

Conclusion

The family were delighted by the schools, the large modern house within catchment of both schools and they really liked Chesham and all the leisure facilities on offer for their sporty children.

Here is the testimonial from the family and we are so pleased that the jigsaw fitted together so perfectly.

While I finish up work in Singapore till the end of the month my wife and the kids are settling in nicely in our new home in Chesham.  We didn’t expect the migration to the UK with 3 kids would be this smooth and this is thanks to your professionalism and local expertise.

The initial phone call convinced my wife and I that Chiltern Relocation knew the Chiltern area and could find the right home and more importantly the right schools for our kids aged 13, 11 and 8.  During our reconnaissance trip a strong shortlist allowed us to decide on the right home and schools on the 3rd day.

Settling the rental inventory, switching on the heating and doing a local shop the day before touch down allowed my wife and the kids to feel at home at once.
