Move over Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross – where to invest next?
Long seen as the towns of choice in this part of Bucks, Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross have even been described as über towns. Regularly featuring in the ‘Top Ten Places to Live’ surveys by the broadsheets there is no doubting the appeal of these locations. However the increasing house price and the lack of affordable family home stock is leaving many families and those wanting to climb the property ladder short on options. This weekend The Saturday Telegraph ran a feature listing the top 73 commuter towns with Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross in the top spots in terms of house prices and combined commuter costs.
Whilst there is no doubting the appeal of these two towns, it can be out of reach financially for some wanting to make the move out of London. Most clients have a wish list including: good sized family home within walking distance to the station, with a generous garden and within catchment of leading primary schools and the all-important Bucks grammar schools. Although properties matching this criteria do exist – they do also come at a price – and that price is too much of a premium for some.
So where to next if you want to all if the above but the budget doesn’t stretch to millions? We have seen a real increase in interest in the following areas: the villages of Bourne End, Wooburn Green, Penn and Tylers Green, Chalfont St Peter and St Giles and the larger town of Chesham.
All these towns or villages boast proximity to excellent local schools in addition to catchment for the Bucks grammar schools. You get more house for your money, a good sized garden, access to good transport links and amenities and a great sense of community in the villages. If opting for village life these locations are just minutes from the larger towns of Beaconsfield and High Wycombe where all social and retail needs can be met. In Bourne End you are right by the River Thames with a host of riverside walks, riverside pubs and boating options on the doorstep. If village life is not for you then Chesham is on the London Underground and enjoys a great range of sporting and leisure facilities in the old and new parts of town.
With more and more house hunters looking beyond the ‘one size fits all towns’ and making the move to these up and coming areas, purchasers will not only be delighted with what they can get for their money but will also see a handsome return on their investment as word starts to spread.
