January is Walk the Dog Month and we are spoilt for choice when it comes to ‘pawfect’ walks in the Chilterns.
Many clients now prioritise their dogs when thinking about their move as the desire to get out and enjoy the great outdoors with the addition of a stop at a fabulous pub is high on the moving criteria.
Obviously, housing, schooling and the commute are top of practicality list see infographic here. However, just under the surface, the desire to bring up children surrounded by fresh air and green fields, with walks leading to pub lunches with friends and a wide range of dog walks is also firmly on the list.
With the greater number of people now working from home, Chiltern Relocation has received a number of enquiries from families wanting to move out of London with their pooch or keen to make the move and get a dog as soon as they have settled in.

- The Blackwood Arms in Littleworth Common is a hidden gem. The pub is located in a small hamlet opposite Littleworth Common and neighbouring Burnham Beeches so there is plenty of scope for walks. The food is excellent (the Sunday roasts in particular) and muddy paws are more than welcome.
- The Royal Standard in Forty Green is The Oldest Freehouse in England, nestled in the heart of the Chiltern countryside. The pub provides a variety of maps of self-guided walks which start from the pub crossing through woods and fields and over the occasional stile. The food is excellent country fayre using locally sourced produce.
- The Royal Oak Marlow is an award-winning pub located in the quintessentially English village of Bovingdon Green. Dogs are allowed in the garden and certain parts of the pub so be sure to call ahead as this pub is very popular. After your hearty lunch you can enjoy a walk through history. The site at Pullingshill Wood contains the best and most complete set of WW1 training trenches left in the UK and plays an important part of recording the history of that time.
- If you fancy a stroll along the river, then The Spade Oak in Bourne End is perfectly located on the Thames. Walkers can stroll past Cookham Reach Sailing Club where there is plenty of rivercraft to enjoy watching as you walk along the towpath or you can head in the opposite direction across the fields to Marlow. The pub has a choice or dog friendly dining areas or a large outside terrace.
