Living in Aylesbury

Why:

Aylesbury is a vibrant, growing town that perfectly balances history, culture and modern living. Situated at the foot of the Chiltern Hills it is a popular commuter town surrounded by charming villages, making it an ideal location for families.

Where:

Aylesbury is located in Buckinghamshire between situated midway between High Wycombe and Milton Keynes. Aylesbury Vale Parkway train station has direct services to Marylebone station, which takes around one hour, with five departures an hour during peak times. Aylesbury is also well connected with good access to M40, A41 and A418, which go to Oxford, Bicester, London and Milton Keynes.

Housing:

There is a good mix of period properties in addition to new builds and a wide range of family housing. Detached homes, especially a little further from the town centre, are more affordable than in places like Amersham, Beaconsfield or some parts of the Chilterns.

Schooling:

Aylesbury has a strong selection of schools, both state and independent, including several rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. There are thirteen selective grammar schools in Buckinghamshire and three of them are in the town. Aylesbury High School for girls, Aylesbury Grammar School for boys and the mixed Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School making the town an attractive choice for families prioritising education. However, a popular private schooling option, just 20 minutes from Aylesbury, is the highly rated Berkhamsted School.

Social:

The town itself is full of gems, including historic pubs, a pretty town centre and a buzzing market. There are several shopping options in Aylesbury, from the independent shops to Friars Square Shopping Centre in the town centre. Bicester Village is also just a 25-minute drive away. The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre attracts many West End productions. The Everybody Active leisure complex in the heart of the town boasts three swimming pools.

Despite this modern growth, Aylesbury retains its historic charm with its cobbled market square which has hosted a market since the 13th century. It is an excellent location for commuters but also for those who love the countryside with hiking, cycling, and exploring the beautiful countryside and Wendover Woods just on the doorstep.
