With the Easter holidays just round the corner, we take a look at what’s going on in our area over the Easter break. Whether it’s children’s activities and adventure you are after or simply exploring stunning countryside and woodland to enjoy the bluebells there is plenty going on in the Chilterns!
Bekonscot Model Village
Established in 1929, Bekonscot is the oldest original model village in the world. Set in 1.5 acres of immaculate gardens and finely detailed model buildings it captures rural English life in the 1930s. The highlight of the village is the network of model trains running throughout the village and a ride-on light railway train for all ages.
This Easter, there will be an Easter egg hunt around the village and children’s entertainer, Professor Crump, will be bringing his stilt walking and balloon modelling skills to Bekonscot.
Chiltern Open Air Museum (COAM)
One of our favourite places to visit, COAM offers a multitude of experiences and activities for children as well as the rest of the family. The 45-acre site is home to the museum’s collection of 37 buildings covering periods from the Iron Age to the mid-twentieth century. The site includes a working historic farm with sheep, goats, cows, chickens and ducks. There is also a number of traditional gardens, a ‘Dig for Victory’ allotment and woodlands, in addition to plenty of hands-on activities and workshops.
This Easter the Terrific Tuesday events will see The Dacorum and Chiltern Potters Guild hosting a fabulous clay creation workshop, where you can mould and shape your unique creations.
There will also be an exciting Easter trail with the clues to find the famous rabbits hiding in our historic buildings.
The Easter weekend (12/13th) heralds the English Civil War Weekend when visitors are invited to return to the 17th Century and witness soldiers in training with muskets firing and Pikemen demonstrating their hand-to-hand combat skills. Wanna-be soldiers can try-on the armour and have a look at the weapons used by soldiers of the Civil War.
National Trust Easter Events
The National Trust has a winning formula in place for to Easter and keeping everyone happy.
Cliveden, Waddesdon Manor and Hughenden Manor will all be putting on their famous Easter Trails around the estate grounds. Guests are invited to make their way along the trail and find activities for the whole family. The trail costs £3.50 which includes an Easter trail sheet, bunny ears and dairy or vegan and Free From chocolate egg.
Burnham Beeches
Located near to the village of Farnham Common, Burnham Beeches encompasses 540 acres of ancient woodland and wildlife habitats. There is a large open green perfect for ball games and picnics and many family groups come together here at weekends. The area is popular with walkers, cyclists and horse riders who all enjoy stopping at the excellent Beeches Café.
Adventure seekers are invited to venture out on their own Easter eggsploration with the seasonally themed puzzle trail. Buy your trail leaflet from the Burnham Beeches Café and see if you can solve the puzzles on the trail. A small chocolate treat awaits every returned leaflet.
Black Park Country Park
Black Park covers over 500 acres of woodland, heathland and open space in South Bucks. With family friendly attractions, such as the adventure playground and Go Ape, miles of beautiful woodland tracks and trails, and opportunities for wildlife spotting, the park offers something for everyone to enjoy.
This Easter visitors are invited to join an animaltastic egg trail in Black Park. See if you can find all the hidden animal characters & giant Easter eggs in the woods with lots to see, from dinosaurs to penguins. The trail runs from Monday 7th April – Friday 11th April 2025. Online booking advised.
