With so many OFSTED rated ‘Outstanding’ and ‘Good’ primary schools in Bucks, it is no wonder that we hear from clients wishing to move to the area to secure an excellent school place. Many of the Outstanding rated Bucks primary schools have the added draw of being located near the 13 selective grammar schools across Buckinghamshire – and competition is fierce to secure a place at one of these grammar schools.
If you have a toddler or primary school aged child, you may think secondary education feels a long way off – but it does come around faster than you may realise. Rather than making two moves, do your research now and make one successful move.
Step One: Start your research early

Step Two: Narrow down school choices
After researching preferred schools make a shortlist of the ones you really like and then find out catchment areas and fluctuations within the catchment maps over recent years.
Step Three: Start your home search within the desired areas
If you are moving for a school place then do not risk going for a house on the boundary of a catchment area in the hope of being successful. The rental and sales markets are busy leading up to school entry deadlines. October and June so aim to look earlier in the year to beat the crowds.
Step Four: Plan ahead and look to secondary options
Many clients find it hard to plan ahead that far but time flies in the primary years so thinking of your long-term options now is key. What are the catchment areas for local grammars and secondaries? Where do school buses depart from for local schools – both state and independent? You want to avoid having to make a second move once you and your child (ren) are settled. Making one wise move now will pay huge future dividends.
