End of Summer Term Report for Chiltern Relocation
As the summer term draws to a close, many families and individuals take a much-needed breather after a frenetic few months and we always we see a unique shift in the rhythm of relocations. It has been a really busy ‘term’ here at Chiltern Relocation with many families moving to the area and other parts of the UK in order to be settled for the new school term starting in September. For many families, the UK school calendar defines the rhythm of relocation. School-based enquiries have dominated this term for us which has meant running school searches alongside house finding services. With catchment areas being a key part of gaining a school place, it has meant extra vigilance when drawing up viewing schedules for our Viewing Days to ensure that schooling is top of the class.
Where have families and individuals relocated to?
We have been thrilled to relocate a wide range of clients in the last few months which includes:
- Enfield to Beaconsfield
- Canada to Gerrards Cross
- Glasgow to Marlow
- Berlin to Surrey
- Canada to Edinburgh
- Dubai to Woking
- Atlanta to Windsor
- Paris to Cheltenham
- Leicester to High Wycombe
- Saudi Arabia to Woking
- Israel to Oxford
- Paris to Stow-on-the-Wold
Many of these relocations have involved securing school places and researching Special Educational Needs provision for some of our client’s children. Finding a school place can often be challenging if the child is moving for entry in Reception or Year 7 (start of secondary school) as this is handled by the local Councils with applications needing to be made almost a year prior. In the case of grammar schools, finding a school place is also a challenge due to the 11+ Transfer Test requirements. Private schools are still very popular – despite the recent hike in VAT – so we often need to research a number of options to find the right fit.
What does Chiltern Relocation do during the summer holidays?
We always enjoy a moment to pause at the end of a busy term to reflect, regroup and refocus ahead of the next academic year. The summer holiday period is also a time for us to assist our clients with additional services to help provide a smooth transition. These services include:
- Cross Culture Training
- Orientation days to include help setting up bank accounts/registering with Drs/dentists etc
- Pet relocation
- Furniture rental packages
- Spousal assistance
For us, the end of term is also a moment to review what worked and what can be improved. At Chiltern Relocation we like to use this time to:
- Update local area guides with new school admission insights, hidden coffee shops, new social amenities
- Continue to build strong local relationships by attending local networking events
- Touch base with local landlords to find out what will be coming to the market in the Autumn.
- Speak to HR departments to understand their relocation time frames and assist with their new assignees
- Ensure we on hand following relocations to help with any day-to-day questions or concerns
Looking Ahead to ‘Next Term’
Once the start of term whirlwind has calmed down in September, we see a new wave of enquiries from clients keen to be settled either by Christmas or the New Year. This is a time to help with in-year school place searches and prepare our network of relocation agents for new assignments.
We are often asked when is the best time to move but for us there is no easy answer. We see movement at all times of the year with definite peaks in January and Easter. However, there will always be those keen to downsize (who do not need school places) or need to suddenly move for family or work reasons.
