How much does it cost to relocate an employee?

We often get asked by HR departments to help with an employee relocation. However, the first question is always regarding budget. How much will it cost to move a member of staff and how can we help.

Moving an employee – and often their family – is at the heart of our business.  There are often many formalities to consider and when looking at the whole picture it can seem overwhelming. Aside from the actual accommodation costs there are many ancillary expenses that also need to be factored into the equation.

These are the key costs using a move from South Africa to London as an example:

Removals

International relocations will require their furniture to be shipped. It will depend on the amount of furniture or items that they plan to move but a ball park figure would be £2200 – £3500 + £250 to receive in the UK, for a large size container cube

Pet Relocation

Dog or cat around £1,300.00

Flights

£300-£400 per person for a family of four expect £1,000.00 +

Visas

Between £1,200.00 – £1,700.00

School fees

If you offer this, school fees are approximate £15,000 -£20,000 per child per year

School search consultant

A specialist who can help find the right school and place for your child typically costs £400 per day

Rent pcm

Expect to pay £3000-£5000 for a 3- or 4-bedroom family house

As detailed, there are many parts to factor in to the cost of an international move. Many areas are very time consuming, with many moving parts, which is why HR departments opt to use Chiltern Relocation’s service as we can help with all of the above.

 Our relocation services:

  • We send a questionnaire to cover in more detail your employees’ search requirements
  • We set up a Skype chat to talk through the questionnaire and discuss the benefits of each area, incorporating school information if needed
  • We set up a Viewing Day to cover the areas discussed – this will cover showing a selection of properties within the budget and criteria required
  • Once we have found the home to rent, we then negotiate the lease agreement and we know the correct clauses are to benefit the tenant
  • On move-in, we organise the transfer of utilities
  • Post-move-in, we provide a booklet of local information, including Dr, Dentists, hospitals, plus information on good places to visit

If you are planning on moving a staff member, we hope that the above costs are helpful when budgeting for the move. If you would like more information about our services please do get in touch. Email  Enquiries@chilternrelocation.com or call 01494 672086 or visit
