One really good thing that has emerged from these surreal times is a real sense of community spirit as we have seen a re-emergence of helping our neighbours and coming together for each other.
At Chiltern Relocation the main drivers behind a move for our clients include a bigger house and garden, proximity to great schools, more open space and good commute times. We keep in touch with many of our clients and the one thing they all say they weren’t expecting – but has been a huge bonus – is the great sense of community they have discovered by moving to the area.
During lockdown we witnessed the charity Better Connected Beaconsfield setting up a buddy system for all areas of the town. Help with groceries, collecting a prescription, taking time for a chat, or helping those who need clothing are among the many services provided. There are now more than 350 volunteers, known as buddies, who help within the community – cementing new friendships.
Sharon at Chiltern Relocation has helped where possible and made face masks with all profits being given to Thames Hospice. After a tremendous amount of sewing over the months Sharon raised a fantastic £750 for the charity in addition to providing environmentally friendly face coverings and connecting with many in the neighbourhood who wanted to support this charitable venture.
Sharon also got her supermarket trolley at the ready and shopped for some elderly local residents every week during lockdown bringing great relief to her neighbours who also enjoyed a chat! Sharon said: “I enjoyed getting to meet new neighbours and the sense of community and helping out was a good feeling”.
What we have learnt from this experience is that community is very much at the heart of daily life in Beaconsfield and across the Chilterns.
