The Initial Enquiry
We received a call from a couple keen to embrace countryside living at the weekends. Their weekdays living in London were somewhat stressful and they felt that a change of scene would be welcome. The couple had built a picture as to what their rural retreat would include and were keen to start the search. On this list of requirements was a character property, ideally on a private lane with no traffic, four bedrooms and importantly it needed to be detached for their ideal weekend getaway.
How we helped
Chiltern Relocation researched a great number of villages in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire to see which villages would meet the brief. We shortlisted a number of picture-perfect properties and set up a Viewing Day that included the villages and hamlets of Penn, Lane End, Brill, Sydenham, Haddenham and Skirmett. During the viewings the couple narrowed down their preferences even further as the search for the chocolate box cottage in a stunning village with fabulous views and in a good community continued.
The problems we faced
The couple were very taken by a cottage in Skirmett which had stunning accommodation downstairs and a fabulous sizeable garden with far reaching views. However, the upstairs accommodation was limited and the possibility to extend unlikely given it was a listed building. The couple conceded that the desired work would be challenging and it was already at the top end of their budget.
Conclusion
Undeterred, we continued to research potential villages and we found a fabulous cottage in Whitchurch near Waddesdon. The cottage fitted the brief – it was listed but had already been sympathetically extended with a stunning cottage garden. Chiltern Relocation put in an offer that was accepted and the sale proceeded smoothly to completion. The couple are already enjoying their weekend retreat with visits to the village pub, country walks on the doorstep and getting to know the local community
