From the Barbican to Character Property in Caversham
The Initial Enquiry
Chiltern Relocation received a call from a young family who were living the ‘high life’ in one of the iconic apartments in the Barbican. They were keen to move to the area but had very specific search criteria. They would only consider Victorian or Georgian properties and in addition to this requirement they would not consider any period properties that had already been modernised. With such a specific search request we explained to the couple that the search would take longer than normal which they fully appreciated. The house had to be right and it didn’t matter if it didn’t happen straight away.
How we helped
After filling in our questionnaire and chatting to the couple on Skype we got a really clear understanding of their wishes. We took to the road for a Viewing Day and saw a number of properties in the famously historic town of Henley on Thames. We saw a number of options but non were the one, as some of the houses had already been renovated.
We then viewed a stunning Victorian home-built c. 1890 in Caversham. It ticked all the boxes. It was a former farmhouse and every room had original features – be it a fireplace, dado rail, picture rail, wood panelling, high ceilings, sash windows. The couple fell in love with the property and wanted to proceed.
The problems we faced
The house had just come back to the market after a previous sale having fallen through and interest was high. We were advised that the house would be going to sealed bids so we needed to get it right. We helped the client get all the paperwork in order that is needed for a sealed bids (see our blog here) and we waited.
Conclusion
A few days before Christmas we were thrilled to learn that our clients had been successful in securing the property. Chiltern Relocation then set to work providing details of a specialist surveyor who deals with period properties and other professionals that the couple would need. We are thrilled that their bespoke search resulted in securing such a fantastic family home.
