What lifestyle are you looking for when moving to the Chilterns?
‘We are looking for access to the countryside for long walks with the dog.’
‘We would like to be close to great walks and great pubs as part of the walk.’
‘We want to be able to enjoy a wide variety of walks with our dogs within easy access of a town.’
‘Our ideal location includes a walk followed by a great Sunday lunch at a pub’.
These are just a few of the comments we have received from clients who fill in our questionnaire at the start of their home search journey. Matching our clients to the right house and the right location and at the right price is at the heart of our job at Chiltern Relocation but we know that all elements of the move are equally important for a successful new chapter. That can be something as simple as ensuring that the desired property has access to the countryside for great family dog walks with a pub stop.
When we look at the criteria for people’s dream home we look closely at their lifestyle and what is going to work best for their move…. sometimes is it access to golf courses or cycling routes and in one case it was access to an ice rink for a child’s ice hockey dreams. Looking at the whole picture is what makes a positive relocation.
However, the request that we hear the most often has to be ‘access to the countryside’ so here are a few of Chiltern Relocation’s favourite local walks and pub stops that our clients now enjoy.
MEDMENHAM
Just a few miles from Marlow and Henley on Thames, is the simply idyllic village of Medmenham located on the Thames. The village is nestled in the Chiltern Hills but with access to the river for picturesque walks towards Henley-on-Thames.
Medmenham’s walking routes combine riverside charm, Chiltern woodlands, and historic village scenery, making it an ideal destination for both casual strolls and more challenging hikes.
Pit stop:
The Flower Pot. Tucked away in the picturesque village of Aston, a short walk from Medmenham and Henley on Thames, The Flower Pot is a characterful country pub with a large beer garden with outside bar and BBQ in summer and roaring log fires and stylish interiors in winter.
The Dog and Badger is a popular choice for all ages due to its excellent Italian themed menu – though they do also serve a roast on a Sunday. This family friendly restaurant is located in a historic building which certainly adds to the charm of the dining experience.
MARLOW
Every client who has visited Marlow with Chiltern Relocation has been charmed by this iconic riverside town. The High Street is home to a wide range of fabulous independent shops and restaurants and there is a farmers market every first and third Saturday. A wide range of walks are on offer including a fabulous loop walk along the valley and back along the towpath where you can enjoy watching passing boats including many rowing crews.
Pit Stop:
The Two Brewers. Tucked away near the weir in a secluded location, this charming local pub offers cask ales and a great British menu. The pub garden was recently featured in the latest series of Ted Lasso.
The George and Dragon at the end of the High Street is a Grade II listed gastropub steeped in character. Just a stone’s throw from the Chiltern Hills and moments from boutique shops, riverside trails, the pub is the perfect base to explore the vibrant market town.
PENN
Penn is a charming and sought-after village with a village green and duck pond at its heart. It has a thriving community spirit and a choice of excellent country pubs and walks. Residents enjoy a peaceful rural lifestyle surrounded by rolling countryside, yet are only minutes from Beaconsfield and just ten minutes from High Wycombe with its extensive shopping, dining and leisure options. Walks are plentiful and include access to Common Wood and Penn Wood and Kings Wood which are part of largest ancient woodlands in the Chilterns National Landscapes.
Pit Stop:
The Crown in Penn has recently undergone a huge make over and guests can enjoy stunning interiors and a large landscaped beer garden with outside bar for walkers and a bar for their hounds.
The Old Queen’s Head is on the border of Penn and Tylers Green is close to Kings Wood. The pub is very popular with locals and is housed in a historic building with fabulous interiors, roaring fires and flagstone floors.
